Im one of the 28.70% That said no. Here's why......

There are two possible outcomes.

It is common courteousy in this day of age to help a fellow citizen (or person in general) when in need. Thats the good samaritan. But at the same time, its not an obligation; its just a form of (like previous have said) chivalry and politeness. If you had helped the elderly women, you wouldn't have felt bad in the first place, and people would've felt appreciated, but also ashamed of themselves for not thinking of the same thing. But you shouldn't have have felt ashamed anyway (IMO) Nobody was calling you out, putting a gun to your head or even whispering to you. Again you ARE NOT obligated to be nice. You can be a complete asshole if you wanted to. Just be prepared to face the karma you have set. If you believe in that kind of thing. Or the consequences for that matter.
.

Since you didnt't help her out others could've helped her. It could've motivated them to get off their fat asses and say "Hey im going to do something about it." And I agree whole heartedly, politeness shouldn't be limited to just one sex. Any women or man can do it too. I would've done the same thing .I could've just fell asleep (or pretend). You had the right to that seat during the bus ride until you reached your desitnation because you got there first. Why do others or the elderly lady for that matter have the right or authority to make you give up your spot?

But it wouldn't hurt to be nice every once in a while. You don't have to help everyone in need you come across. You're not a freakin super hero; or Chuck Norris, except he only helps himself XD.
