If Nintendo's first party output on the GC was any good, then I, as a lifelong Nintendo fan, wouldn't have turned my back on Nintendo and gaming as a whole in disgust for 2 and a half years before the Wii came out.

Exactly it's like I'm saying people tend to display selective memories when looking back, GC wasn't a bad console in the end but it's the weakest of Nintendo's consoles and had severe issues like huge droughts, especially the two year drought at the end of it's life.
