Actually, the main sellers on 3DS in Japan are games like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil; and also Mario Kart, and Mario Land 3D. Pokemon is also an inevitable title, and Monster Hunter 4 is still to come as well.
From what we have seen so far, Vita might end up being the lowest selling handheld system from major hardware company since the Sega Gamegear.
Add to the fact that when the Wii U hits, and with far greater support, the PSP Vita will effectively be obsolete.
