No it isn't, they've been used for years. Quincunx AA on nvidia graphics cards and as used on PS3 has been around for 10 years+

Selectable different types of AA at driver level has been around since the Voodoo 5000, about 12-14 years ago.

I guess I should have specified selective/"smart" post AA, my bad
