Forums - Microsoft - Alan Wake’s American Nightmare implement FXAA, has a selectable Vsync

VG Arabia

Remedy has confirmed that their XBLA exclusive Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will implement FXAA instead of the 4x multisampling anti-aliasing implemented in the original. The original Alan Wake on Xbox360 implemented what Remedy calls “Smart Vsync”. American Nightmare will allow players to switch Vsync on and off or to select Smart Vsync.

The original Alan Wake runs with a sub-HD resolution. It seems that Remedy implemented FXAA in order to run American Nightmare on higher resolution than its predecessor (maybe native 720P). FXAA uses less resources than 4XMSAA, but at the same time it won’t look as sharp as 4XMSAA does.

the original looked amazing. If this looks better then awesome.
Just can't wait to play it. =)

It's quite amazing how fast post process AA methods have taken over the industry

I really couldn't care any less about what anti aliasing it uses...the game would be awesome no matter what.

I like this way more than the first game. Its short, focused, and to the point. Not to mention that I actually get whats going on and even understand part 1 better. Part 1s story is so needlesly complicated...

nah AWAN use 4xAA+FXAA,1120x585
yeah they use both

No it isn't, they've been used for years. Quincunx AA on nvidia graphics cards and as used on PS3 has been around for 10 years+

Selectable different types of AA at driver level has been around since the Voodoo 5000, about 12-14 years ago.
