I agree with the article, but for a different reason. I've never liked the name "Playstation". It grew on me over time, but it sounds so kiddy. It has the word "Play" which makes me think of Playschool toys. I've always hoped video game culture would grow up and stop being looked at like kid's stuff. If Sony dropped the word play and went with something else it would help legitimize gaming with none gamers.
I just wish there was another word to describe interacting with video games. We listen to music, read books, watch movies and that all sounds like perfectly legitimate adult activities. Even playing sports doesn't even have a negative stigma. But, for some reason "playing" video games does.
I have no idea what word could replace "play" but there has to be something. It's become somewhat common to here someone say "I'm gaming" instead of "I'm playing a game". But it doesn't work if you say "I'm gaming Resident Evil" so we need something to replace play that feels as natural.
