Mostly it's one of the most pure RPG experiences in terms of strategy, planning and overall thought that goes behind setting up the perfect team (of your choice). There isn't another game or series that has a meta game as huge as the Pokemon games have.

That, and the whole Catch em all concept are the driving forces behind the series for me. Pokemon White&Black added some nifty concepts, like re-usable TM's (does wonders for strategies on the go), the new 1 vs 1 PVP item system (no more abusing Full Restores left and right) and the larger focus on story this time around.
