Ive always felt if the PS3 launched out of band by two years it could have defined its own gen, and with minor hard ware tweaks could have claimed it was the only real next gen console, and launched at a break even point in hardware costs. I think it would be harder for them to carry that out this time due to damage to the brand this last gen, so i do agree that launching within a year this time in needed and i do not feel the ps3 can compete with the nextbox where i feel the ps2 and the thought of how good a ps3 would be could hold 360 sales down. MS launched the 360 when they did because they had to, to have a chance at stopping the money hemorrhage and to make a dent, sony was still making money and could have waited with the ps3
