'We don't care what our competitors are doing, we don't care what the wider entertainment industry is doing' If that's true, that's such a terrible way for a company to run itself
Nintendo shouldn't care, because they're in the business of selling their own systems, and have one effective tool to use in the sale of such systems (e.g. first party games) that bears little on what anyone else is doing
Nintendo only need follow industry trends very vaguely and broadly, to minimize the amount of good excuses third parties have for not developing on the platform (but of course, 3rd parties will take the bad or irrational excuses, so that point is almost moot as well.)
Nintendo should in fact care. For example, Sony caught a bunch of flack for releasing the PSP with only one analogue stick, and yet Nintendo does the same with the 3DS and are now releasing a peripheral with an additional analogue stick.
It's reasonably clear the circle pad pro was just a moneyhat for Monster Hunter Tri G, evident from the fact that it's optional even in the game it was designed for.
It may have started as a money hat for MHTG, but it has become so much more. Third parties are supporting it with a bunch of games, and even Nintendo themselves are supporting it, so clearly developers thinks it improves their games. On top of that, consumers have been demanding that second analogue stick since the PSP was released.
Ignoring the peripheral for a moment, why would Nintendo do exactly the same thing this new generation, that Sony got battered for in the previous generation?
Because DS did fine with no analogues whatsoever?
Because Wii proved that dual analogues is a vastly overhyped control scheme?
Because catering to the vocal minority gets you what now?
You've got to be kidding... FPS games with one analog and the stylus... URG!
The DS did fine sure, but lots of games could have benefitted from a second analog stick.
And the Wii proved what exactly? The controls for Twilight Princess for example, are much better to me on the Gamecube than on the Wii. Skyward Sword sure was fun, but the controls still had issues. You had to re-center the damn thing every few minutes, you had no control over the camera except for the annoyingly bad "Z re-centering", and swimming... I better not talk about the swimming.
In other words your crap at playing Zelda SS and I’m damn good at it! I don’t get how some people can have issues with it tbh
Sure there were a few bad things but not as bad as some people claim it to be.
And why does me saying the controls have issues make you believe I'm crap at the game... Did I hurt your feelings or something?
HAHA no just that I did not have these problems with it but maybe that’s because I have a new Wiimote plus
Some people had bad controls and when they changed them they saw a difference
Nope, I have the 25th anniversary of Mario Red Wii that came with the Wii Motion+ included in the Wii-mote.
Now, are you trying to make me believe that you never had to re-center the controller during your entire playthrough? The sword mechanics were great, but even them had some issues poping up from time to time, if you weren't sitting there like a robot, never moving away from a "centered" position in relation to the screen.. As for the camera issues, that's more personal preference than anything, but gosh did I hate the swimming controls.
