'We don't care what our competitors are doing, we don't care what the wider entertainment industry is doing'

If that's true, that's such a terrible way for a company to run itself

Nintendo shouldn't care, because they're in the business of selling their own systems, and have one effective tool to use in the sale of such systems (e.g. first party games) that bears little on what anyone else is doing

Nintendo only need follow industry trends very vaguely and broadly, to minimize the amount of good excuses third parties have for not developing on the platform (but of course, 3rd parties will take the bad or irrational excuses, so that point is almost moot as well.)

if nintendo is blind to or ignores the trends third parties are adopting how can you possibly blame anyone but nintendo for a lack of third party support.

when you go out of your way to not fit into the system you shouldn't expect the system to work for you.
