First off, I don't think the controls are terrible but I think they are not as amazing as everyone tried to make them out to be, but this isn't about me but rather, this is about my Mother.
My Mother has been a big time Zelda gamer just like me since the late 80's. We have both beaten Zelda, Link, LttP, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass and even Choo-Choo Zelda.
She got Skyward Sword for Christmas and boy was she excited. Never seen a 49 year old woman so excited about a video game before besides the time I got her the Zelda DS Lite, which I borrowed and never gave back. 
Anyways, she just called me like 5 minutes ago and was upset. No, she wasn't upset meaning she was crying or anything, she was just upset with Skyward Sword.
She HATES the controls!
She is up to the ceremony where you have the get the bird statuette from the lead bird and I myself even had trouble at first, but she has spent hours so far and just can't get a handle on the controls.
Now I know what all of you are thinking, which is probably something along the lines of "Well then she sucks and needs to learn how to use the Wiimote properly", but do not forget, this woman knows more about Zelda than many of you know your own bodies.
Anyways, I thought I should share that. It actually makes me a bit upset that my Mother is so turned off it because this will mark the fist time she ever gives up on a Zelda title.
