| MrT-Tar said: While I would like to see Retro to make a new IP (and possibly one that is 'not Nintendo like' as well), I don't think the leash is a problem. It's probably something more to do with size of the studio, and therefore the quantity of games they produce in a generation. According to Wikipedia, Retro had only 60 staff last year; to contrast Rare had 200 (in that case maybe too many cooks spoil the broth!). Retro are compared by many to Rare in their 5th gen heyday, so I'll use this comparison. Rare developed loads of games during the 5th gen: Perfect Dark x2, DK64, Blast Corps, Goldeneye, Conker x2, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo x2 to name some, but not all. To compare, what have Retro done this gen? Metroid Prime 3, Trilogy, DKCR, helping with Red Steel 2. |
Also to be fair, Nintendo is letting Retro work on their most prized franchise. First the revival of Metroi, then Donkey Kong Country, and now they let them work on Mario Kart? It's only a matter of time before they let Retro work on their own IP, but for now I'm still happy, and I think they are too.
