I read in an interview Retro wanted to work on a different Nintendo IP after Metroid Prime, and Donkey Kong Country was one of their top choices. I didn't hear anything bad.
However a new IP from Retro Studios would be excellent. Nintendo needs a new IP, and one from Retro Studios would likely please the hardcore, and at the same time introduce a radically new IP for Nintendo, and maybe even a new character for Smash Bros.
Let's hope, but either way, Eternal Darkness 2 would also be super cool.
