do you have to pay for "standart" tv in america as well or only for pay tv? here in germany we have pay tv and standart tv but the joke is we have to pay for that as well. ok it has much less advertisement because of that and we would have never a situation like you have in america on super bowl for example (hell this is a lot of advertisement you have there) but that means if we wish to have as many channels as you have with this deal we need both (with less hd channels).

it costs like 20€ for the normal tv and radio (for everyone in germany the same except jobless) + pay tv which would cost like 50-65€ for the whole sky program for most people if they don't get a nice deal like me, i pay 33.90€ for the whole sky pay tv program and this is very lucky.

then internet with this speed hmm like 40€ i think but i don't know exactly i can't have this speed where i live :(

so for tv, internet, phone and the game/xbox live we have to pay like 130€ here which means $170 and the dollar is strong atm against the euro lol. few month ago this was $200.

in america you have like 3 free stations which are basically the news.
you pay a provider to get everything else
for most its between
Basic cable- about 70 channels
premium cable which has a lot more
or fios which has about the same but some channels are differnt ( i know its wierd)
there is also satellite but that is mostly phased out.
its kinda dumb, because other then the free 3 channels each other package is about $50 a month. so its about quality and how much a pain in the ass it is to switch providers.

nah this isn't weird, our system is weird haha.

we have pay tv but there you can buy different packages. full package has like 60 channels or so but you can decide to pay only for the standard package or standard+movie or +sports or +soccer or standard+sport+movie or...  and then we have "normal" tv which everyone receives but for that, we have to pay for as well (if we want or not) and this "normal" tv is split between commercial channels with a lot of advertisement which don't get any money, they only live from advertisement and the public channels which get money from everyone who has a tv with less advertisement (the 20€ everyone with a tv has to pay if he wants or not)

this is so sick haha. these "normal" channels are much more than your three in america. we have them for different regions (but everyone can receive them), for sports, news, mix of eeverything and blabla. i think it could be like 150 channels but if we wish to see soccer we still need pay-tv that sucks haha so many channels but still not the ones you need...

so at least the full package of public channels, commercial channels and pay-tv makes like 200 tv-channels but. 150 channels cost only 20€ and the other 50-60 cost like 60€ (lol) if you don't wait for a deal.

i have to say this system guarantees at least a decent quality for a nice price (20€ for 150 channels) but if you love soccer or so which is popular like football in usa you are doomed.

oh yeah and you only get the 150 channels with satellite, with cable you get much less but satellite is very popular here so this isn't a problem.

so it seem s like we can get decent tv for less than you inamerica because you need some pay-tv package it seems but if we wish to get the quality you have when you have pay-tv we have to pay much  more here but with less advertisement i believe (not sure i only know that super bowl is very much advertisement)

fun fact here is that you have to pay for tv even if you don't watch tv and only need the tv to pay video games. owning a tv means you have to pay the 20€ because you could theoretically watch tv. that's not so cool i think^^
