On a side note about this, a friend and I have been discussing alternate ways for control on a handheld while retaining such things as analogue. The touch pad was okay, but what irked me was the lack of a notable "zero point" without directly looking at it. Then I figured, what if there was a touchscreen that was circular, concave, and big enough to just use your thumb in? Solid state controller?

Sort of like the old Turbo Touch 360 controllers for the Nes?  I like it!

Yeah sort of, but instead of it being flat and digital response, make it logarithmic concave so by touch, your thumb has a bit of an idea of where it's centered.
