Looks like my theory about the memory cards prices were wrong...
"The previously provided PlayStation Vita memory card prices weren’t entirely accurate, turns out.
Sony’s given an update, saying the lower-end 4GB and 8GB cards will, instead of $29.99 and $44.99, hit retail for $24.99 and $39.99. So a fiver cheaper each than initially expected.
The 16GB will still be $69.99 though, and the 32GB $119.99."
