"The Nintendo Wii had its biggest Black Friday ever more with than 500,000 units sold just during Black Friday and the pre-Black openings at some stores, he says."

WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT!! 500k is biggest BF for Wii?

Last year they said they did 600k but that was for the full week, this is just for BF (and stores that opened late Thursday). So going by BenVTriggers projection of PS3 being just slightly below Wii this means that PS3 should be over 500k across Americas.

Hopefully Sony release an estimate, the estimate I've been given isn't anywhere near 500k though.

What was the estimate you got for the Wii? Considering pretty much every piece of anecdotal and inside information suggested PS3 outselling Wii outside of Walmart that seems rather odd. Particularly considering Wii's total Americas sales for the full week are likely comfortably over 600k.

If Wii turns out selling much better than PS3 for BF, it would prove that

1. anecdotal evidence doesn't mean much

2. Walmart has a huge market for video game sales.

1. doesn't mean anything anyway, going by anecdotal evidence most sites might as well have had the Wii dead, but it's just done its best numbers ever on the day.

2. I think it's big anyway, but I think it's more people have unrealistic expectations for PS3, I've seen some 500k predictions for this week. When It only did 530k in the US for the entire Nov month last year, including GT5 launching, that just seems a tad optimistic to me. They also didn't mention in their PR they were up or anything, actually they didn't allude to any numbers at all. Hopefully we do get something though, I still think the PS3 could have had a solid BF and Nov overall.

Yeah, tbh I think the trend has seen the PS3 suffer a bit in the US each year during the holidays. It will definitely be on top in Europe and Japan, but America really seems out of its reach.

And really if it has never done 500k before in the US, why would it do it now? UC3 is not that big of a system mover so i don't see any reason
