I just personally don't see the sense in a Xbox 720 in 2012. One could argue that it could be to deflate some of the Wii U entrance into the console market, but I still don't see the business move of a new console from Microsoft.

We all know Microsoft is working on their next console. That is true. But its evident that the X360 is hitting strong late strides especially in the Americas. Kinect has helped the boost as well as a very solid advertising model. A new console seems like too much of an awkward business move by Microsoft to me.

If what Pachter says is true and Microsoft is planning to unveil a new X360 console design that will incorporate more of Windows 8 compatability then my logical thinking would cause me to conclude a new console by Microsoft would likely not hit the scene until 2014 at the earliest. A Xbox 720 in 2012 does not make sense from a business standpoint, but introducing a new X360 console design in 2012 to then turn around in 2013 and release the Xbox 720 would make even less sense. If anything this news causes me to wonder if an Xbox 720 would become a 2014 release. confusing rumors.
