Gears 3 is by far, the most polished Gears game to date, and it has the longest, and deepest story. The narrative in Gears of War 1 was the best of the series, but the game was very limited (basic multiplayer, missing chapter, not much cinematics to explain the story).
Also yo-john, if Gears 3 outsold Gears 1/2 on a matching week, that's excellent. Gears 1/2 released in November, they should be peaking in holidays sales before a major drop now.

Yeah, I love the new Gears compared to the previous two. I actually thought the first story was done the worst, second one was good, and this one is the best, but that's just my opinion. The only thing I hear complaints about from hardcore Gears players are the sawed off shotgun really as it makes it incredibly easy for people with less skill to get kills on people with lots of skill. I agree, but then again, I remember some of my friends hating Gears 2 multiplayer because they just didn't have a chance in hell at doing well at all. So I understand it. That being said, with the new horde mode actually being fun and rewarding to play, and beast mode, arcade, etc... it is much better. A lot of my Gears pals are playing MW3 and Skyrim right now, but after a while we will all be back on the Gears train. Not worried about the sales, they are already ahead every week so can't go wrong with that, plus two giants just got released on Xbox so what do you expect? I wish they would bring back Guardian mode.... as that was everyone who I know's favorite. They'd have to make it 5 rounds for a win but still... we all miss it. And I guarantee you more would be playing it than Warzone and Wingman combined if they added it.

The first Gears had the best plot, but as the first game in the franchise, it lacked the polish of the other 2. Also MP was a last minute addition.
Also, any pro with the gnasher just has to aim at the head, and it's just as effective as the sawed off. When you play KOTH and other fast paced moded, the sawed off reload time is just too damn long.
Guardian mode.... isn't that in Gears 3? that's the mode where you have to protect the leader correct?
