You need to come up with an example that will lead to multiplayer games being gimped for Wiimote users. Neither you or anyone else in this thread could think of something so far. You need at least something to convince me that it is an issue instead of blindly assuming that Nintendo will come up with something truly revolutionary. |
I already gave you a hypothetical situation. Like the additional features that could be implemented with the tablet for Smash Bros., quick tap buttons for moves, maybe different ways to block or attack by aiming the controller at the screen, hell just even a deeper fighting experience using all the buttons for different types of attacks. Or for Mario Kart, maybe quick tap buttons for power-ups, or pulling off special maneuvers, or maybe a pick up that reveals a hidden path on the map on the tablet. Of course, if you sat and thought about it you could comeup with even more ways to exploit the tablet controller. Now, will a person playing with the Wii-mote get all of those features? No. So a developer will have to gimp the person using the tablet controller to make the game even for both. Otherwise, it would be an easy win every time = no fun. So very little use of the tablet's screen, fighting games will be regulated to only a couple of buttons for attacks, no taps on the screen to do things.
I know some would say, "But some of those display features can be pulled of by using the TV for the Wii-motes." True, but then, what's the point? If not everyone is getting the full immersion of the game, and playing the Wii U with it's main draw, why even have one? Is coming over to a friends house and playing with a Wii-mote like you already do with the Wii going to make you want the system, probably not. Then I know some would say, "But that's what online gaming is for." You have to remember, this console is being aimed at the same people who bought the Wii, hence the reason it still uses Wii-motes. How many of those 89.5 mil owners do you think have actually played online for an extended amount of time, or even at all? Maybe 10-15%? Wii has never been about its HUGE online community, unlike the 360 and PS3. It's been about having it a parties for playing multiplayer with a bunch of people. The same is going to be true of the Wii U. Yes, Nintendo is trying to build a better online experience, but we have to see how that will play out, or how many will actually use it.
