I cleared a ton of content from my 80GB PS3. A ton of installs from games I don't really play (DMC4, Prince of Persia, Heavenly Sword), deleted all of my videos, and copied all of my music to an HDD. I STILL only have 20gb!! I don't want to delete my PSN titles. If I get this game, I'll only have 4GB left. I need my tiny bit of space for PSN content and game installs.

Looks like I'm sitting this one out. :(
People make it seem like it's so easy to switch to a bigger HDD on a PS3. Anybody with experience, I have a PS3 Phat. Will I lose any data by changing the HDD? Can I copy anything to a flash drive? Is an external HDD (via USB) an option?

If you have PSN+ you can back up all of your saves on the servers. If not, some saves will not allow you to simply back them up. You can use external devices for Pictures, Videos, Music and some games saves. Games themselves and their installs will require you to use the back up feature in your system menu. If you do this it also backs up Pictures Videos and Music as well.

The main problem is the certain game saves that don't allow you to copy them. Off the top of my Head: RE5, Dark Souls, Burnout Paradise are a few of these special games.

I have a portable ExHDD that I use for Videos, Pictures and Movies. I don't bother copying them to the system. I'm not sure how this affects those certain games that allow custom background music though. I know that for the video chat, I can still show my pictures from external devices to my friends.
