There are exceptions, but those tend to be games that can be pickup and play on either handhelds or home systems (like the Final Fantasy III and FF IV remakes on the DS, and many of the games ported to the Gameboy systems).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
