How do you know that's true? Not only is it impossible to generalize, but in many cases it's not posible to raise a familyon a single income.

It is very possible - my wife and I are doing. My parents did it as well - raised 4 children. And we even took family trips yearly! You have to budget and figure out what you want vs. what you need. If you go without all of the luxuries you want, yeah, you can do it. It's not easy, but I am living proof in two generations, it can be done.
