This is probably the best move Sony will make this decade. Now they can fully integrate home, and mobile devices, something they would never have done with the SE partenership. This is a move that will allow them to not fall buy the wayside, as companies like Samsung, Microsoft, and Apple already have a much better integration of platforms. Without this move they would have lost momentum in many sectors. Integartion of hardware and services will only become more and more important in years to come. 

In my opinion this puts Sony back in the chase.

Yup, saying its a "waist" of money seems like "bosom" talk.
