This is true, but PS3 was riding the hype of PS2 and taken significantly more price cuts. The current price of the 360 shows they are in it to make money, not just move some hardware.

And the 360 launched at $200 less than the PS3 a year earlier.  It was also the first console this gen, including the Wii, to drop its price to $199.

More importantly than the 360 being $200 less and released a year earlier, the PS3 was just too expensive at launch.

Hence, a $300 PS3 would have likely killed the competition even if they were $99. Just like PS2 killed its cheaper competition.

Makes you really question the competence of Sony as a business, huh?
