I am not sure why people think Nintendo made a terrible mistake this generation. Console sales have thus far increased from 19,000,000 last generation to 90,000,000 this generation so far and have a brand new fresh console on the way soon that the development community is raving about.
The company that royally messed up this generation was very clearly Sony who dropped from 150,000,000 to 52,000,000, declining sales year over year, and with no new console in site.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
