Seece said: Kinect isn't a console, it's viewed as by casuals and sells like one, and will this xmas, whether you like it or not. Industry folk agree and everyone else does expect Sony fans, funnily enough. |
The problem with Kinect selling like a console, comes the fact that a console doesn't sell without new, compelling games. Look at the Wii. No games and it drops, good games and it does well.
What does Kinect have this Holiday to push it to new consumers?
Another thing to look at with Kinect is, is it the only new "in" thing on the market this Year? Last Year it had Move to contend with, and let's be honest, in comparison to Kinect... Move sold like shit. The Wii was the usual "go to" console for the expanded market even in 2010, but it had a fair few big games release (JD2, DKCR, Epic Mickey, Kirby, Sonic, GoldenEye). In 2011, Kinect has a much, much, MUCH bigger contender in the ring - The 3DS.
3DS will take Kinect's place as being the "in" thing this Year among the expanded market. It's the successor to the best selling handheld ever. It's at a new, great price and has 2 huge games releasing in America (Likely to be Kinects only huge market). Mario 3D and Mario Kart are going to be fairly big. Mario 3D will surpass 5 Million and Mario Kart, as we all know, can surpass 20 Million.
Without a pricecut, Kinect probably wont do anywhere near as well as last Holiday. Same goes for 360 itself. It's not a "Sony fans" thing, it's just looking at it from an angle other than the one Microsoft want us to see.
