Not sure about the USA to be honest but it definately wasn't controversial in Sweden. It was considered mild political satire. Clever but mild.

Don't get me wrong though, I always liked Simpsons.

Criticizing the weapon industry is not bold man, where did you get that from lol? If a cartoon made propaganda for war and money, that would have been bold!

Bold? That's not bold. Hollywood's been doing those ever since it came into existence.

lol wait, people think the Simpsons are actually bold?  It was an important show in the 90's for a variety of reasons but the show has never been really bold.  It tries to take a stance every now and then but still always fails to deliver an actual message.

A great example would be Lisa being a vegetarian.  It would be bold to come out and say nobody should eat meat and then stick to it.  If Lisa converted everyone in the show to being a vegetarian and they stuck to it that would be bold.  Instead, they turn it into a joke where Lisa sticks to her side and everyone else sticks to their side.  Nothing gained, nothing lost, nobody pissed off, and no message.

Great example. As a vegetarian myself I wish they'd do that, make Lisa convert tons of people into permanent vegetarians.
