Runa216 said: Sorry about the butthurt report image, was meant to be lighthearted. But at the same time, I find it rather frustrating that my 'image' is almost entirely based on my (strong) feelings towards a single game. I'm aggressive, I'm hateful, I'm angry, I'm rude, etc....but that's not like me at all, I just really, REALLY REALLY REALLY hate FFXIII (and with VERY good reason), and I loooove making that point known because of my history and attitude (I look for the good in everything), for great contrast. Also, it says in my sig right there that I have strong opinions and I voice them loudly. Seriously, this world needs a bit more blunt honesty, because far too many people are beating around the bush and fucking around instead of being gutsy enough to come out and say "This sucks, here's why", regardless of the white knights who stand up to defend it. It's gotten to the point where the only way to have a debate/discussion on a forum/messageboard is to punctuate every sentence with "in my opinion". And yes, people ARE stupid. I may sound condescending, but it's group mentality. One person can usually be counted on to think rationally and intelligently, but the bigger the group, the dumber the collective gets. That's just social science. |
I agree with you completely on your first sentence, honesty should be valued more often, but there are ways to discuss the negatives of something you don't find to be good that don't fall down to "I'm right and only my opinion is valid". It might not be what you're trying to do, but it comes across as that.
The problem is that you enter in direct conflict with your second phrase. Yes mob mentality catters to the lowest common denominator, which usually boils down to low-end intelligence and dumbish discussion. In that essence, by falling down into that same type of argumentation, you tend to fall down on the same group mentality that you're voicing against. This is me being "brutally and bluntly honest" without having to resort to low-end arguments.

I do agree with what Runa said, people need to be more honest and people in this day and age really aren't that bright. But whatever, that's not my point.
I still don't agree with what he is doing with FFXIII though, he isn't coming off as being honest yet blunt, he is coming off as obsessive and rude. As for his "opinion", I am an understanding person and can accept people's opinions, but when I saw his individual ratings (2/10 for difficulty, 1/10 for innovation and 3/10 for world specifically) he threw every ounce of his credibility out the window, the guy is deluded. I said he may as well start arguing the point that the sky is green.
