Now, he may be a social-conservative (of which I am not), but he does seem to be a constitutionalist, in favour of state-rights, and seems to have run Texas with some level of success. Out of the three current front-runners who are likely to win the nomination (Romney, Bachmann and Perry), I prefer Perry thanks to his charisma and track record with economic success in Texas. I think either Perry or Romney would have the best chance of beating Obama... and, frankly either will be better.

Basically, I'd want Paul or Johnson, but I think Perry is the best candidate out of the ones likely to go somewhere. No President at all would be better than Obama (or, exactly the same).

Bachmann is no more likely to win the nomination than Ron Paul. The media just likes to exaggerate her importance because she's female and loud.

As for Rick Perry, you have to understand that he's a neo-conservative, which is absolutely the worst kind of Republican. Where Ron Paul would withdraw from every war America is fighting (incidentally, I don't support him either - he refuses to compromise and he is an extremist) I could easily see Rick Perry invading plenty more, and since he's not particularly intelligent, it would be the Republican string-pullers again, like it was with Bush Jr.

Moreover, he's a fundie Christian who doesn't believe in evolution and keeps staging prayer rallies, and states that atheists have no souls and such. He's also opposed to gay marriage and abortion like everyone, but even worse, he wants to criminalise gay sex which is just the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Avoid Perry like the plague. He's only marginally better than Bachmann. Of the "three-horse race" (really a two-horse race), Romney is the only semi-sane horse, and he's a weak-willed coward who is afraid to stand up for his beliefs because he is so desperate to get votes. And Gary Johnson is unelectable, and Giuliani shows no signs of entering.

TL;DR: Obama 2012.
