Nintendo - Concern for 3DS. - View Post

To be honest I expected 3DS to do just fine at 250$ I thought the falls line-up of AAA+ games would make the battle a tough one for Sony. However out of the gate I expected Nintendo to loose a ton of marketshare. Infact I thought Vita might only loose the battle by a few million units. But then it launched and has been doing horrible, I changed my mind and thought that PS Vita might kill it off, however with this price cut I think 3DS is back in the running for winner of this handheld console war.

Will 3DS die? If Vita kicks its butt this winter despite the killer line up and lower price, then maybe. But I don't think that is likely I think 3DS will get out of this slump and will rebound. I bet Nintendo will yet again win the handheld war, though I am returning to my origional expectation where 3DS doesn't win by a landslide like they did with DS I think this will be a much closer fight.

However my concern is that Nintendo will not be nearly as profitable with 3DS. Selling each unit as a loss means they need to shift alot of software to make up for that loss. Meaning Nintendo will have a much harder time maintaining the profit margins they have enjoyed in the past few years.

So I am not concerned for 3DS's life span, I very much doubt it will die like VB or DC. However I am concerned Nintendo will not be able to maintain profit margins and protect stock from continuing to plummet!
