ARM is predicting their new Mali chip will be able to have the graphical capabilities of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 by 2013. At the moment ARM’s current T604 chip is capable of the graphics seen on Playstation 2 games and Xbox games. ARM says they will be able to have the graphical power of current-gen consoles within 18 months in mobile devices!
ARM is saying there are other ways of accessing such power, without following the famous Moore’s law (the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years.) Although this law is unavoidable, ARM says there’s more to achieving such power in a chip than just throwing hardware at it.
If ARM is able to pull this feat off, the mobile industry will undoubtedly grow to undiscovered heights. The mobile games industry will become popular with many as a respectable source of high quality games. A mobile phone with high-end graphics will be a lot cheaper than paying hundreds of dollars for gaming consoles.
However, I still prefer console gaming. Not much of a fan of the small screen. Don’t forget, by 2013 we are more than likely to see the release of newer consoles, or at least by 2014. This will settle the score allowing Consoles to once again thrive with graphics and ultimately, leave mobile gaming in the dust.

Add in air play feature allowing wireless streaming to TVs and wireless controlers and tablets could seriously cut into the casual console market. Especially the Wii U as a iPAD 4 could offer a very similar experiance to the Wii U including asymetric multiplayer.
