Mr Khan: I have considered that possibility, myself. Twilight Princess does say that 'sorcerers' (the not-yet Twili) invaded Hyrule. The game also speaks of a race of sky-dwellers who created Hyrule... We'll see if the Escher-inspired, comical little foils from. Twilight Princess show up in this game as well. It is also worth noting that the Royal Family's crest, worn by Zelda in Skyward Sword, is just one of many (family?) bird-inspired insignia worn by the people of Skyloft.
I think it is fairly obvious at this point that Skyward Sword is setting itself up to be a direct prequel to Twilight Princess as well as an origin story. Nearly all of the mainline Zeldas have actually been origin stories - ALttP was the origin story of the Triforce, OoT was the origin story of Ganondorf, and now Skyward Sword is the origin story of the Master Sword, and seemingly Hyrule itself. Still, who knows until the game is out (and beyond), right?
Speaking of Ganondorf... One (final?) note on Ocarina of Time: I admire the way the designers handle progression during the Ganondorf battle. Ganondorf does get faster and more aggressive as he takes damage, but the real difference comes from the fact that he knocks out pieces of the floor, which not only takes advantage of the 3D environment, but works indirectly to change the of the context of the battle (with input from the player), and is a more subtle way than usual of making the fight more difficult as time goes on.
Finally, I'm pleased to say I am making great progress in Link's Awakening. Koizumi's humor and sense of drama is right up my alley, and think I'm beginning to understand why the game is considered such a classic, even amongst the developers.
