I doubt it.  Enix's position has always been "We make our biggest games for the console that has sold the most."

If they did moneyhat them.   They didn't have to.

They likely shared the stage with DQ because DQ is the biggest name in gaming in Japan.

As for it staying on the wii?  What else could they do with it?  It no doubt has already gone through a lot of development, They're going to restart graphical modeling over from scratch?  I don't think so... hell, you'd be better off just starting on DQ11 to release like... a year after DQ10.

Well, that's assuming the guys at Enix have a very simplistic view of the console market.  And, as others have said, surely they would've given the platform more support in its early years if that were the case.

Personally, I think a simultaneous WU/PS3/360 release would be best at this point.  I can't imagine the figures DQX will do given the current state of the Wii, let alone the state of the Wii a year or more from now.

The Wii has only managed to move 2.5 million units of software so far this year in Japan.  Total.  That number will be significantly lower next year, so for DQX to pull decent figures for a Dragon Quest title, it'd have to outsell every other Wii release for the first half of the year combined and then some.

I guess Square Enix simply sucks at developing games at a fast speed. Look at Versus XIII (and Kingdom Hearts 3).

The way I see it is Square Enix bet its money on the PS3, then had to realize the Wii was selling better. At that point they were stuck with huge projects like the Final Fantasy titles and Dragon Quest for DS, though. And these huge projects kept the most development resources locked.

And now they are desperate because the Wii is dead in Japan and their game still needs another year or so to be finished.

So yeah... they simply suck at making their games at a faster speed.
