It's a fine source of power that should get some investment. It's sure as hell better than fossil fuel, and it's a lot more feasible at the moment than renewables. No, it's not perfect: it still uses finite resources (though they are present in much larger amounts, especially U-238) and releases dangerous waste. But it's the best we have at the moment.
Germany is making a big mistake by caving in to the hippies that oppose it. How many nuclear disasters have we had since nuclear power's inception? Three. How many coal mines have exploded? How many oil leaks have we had? I know it would be lovely if we could all run on wind and solar power, but they are both horribly impractical and produce very little electricity relative to their cost. It would require an area of solar panels roughly the size of Libya to power Europe. Wind is fickle, and wind power stations are not cheap.
And if anyone is so naive and foolish as to think we're all going to stop driving cars and start cycling everywhere and shut down the factories and live off the land, well, I don't think they should really have any say in the future of humanity.
