It's not really surprising to learn that developers don't have complete builds ready to go for hardware that's 18 months away from release. I'd say using rival consoles to render the games is less deceptive than using pre-renders.
I totally thought that Zelda demo was a pre-render, actually, but from what I read now it actually isn't. Though it is a scripted demo sequence rather than an actual interactive game.
