I care because I like continuity and those few details mean someone isn't paying attention.

But if it holds back gameplay then its a negative experience.

I'm referring to the story and how things randomly changed from the end of the last game for no reason. How can that hold back gameplay? That's like saying that's why the story in Ninja Gaiden games are so crappy is because they would hold back the gameplay...
