Back in the NES launch $199 would be worthy $399 today. There was no competition, but if you consider how people perceived the market back there (mere toys) I'd say that was pretty much out of mass market.

 

Oh, and $350 would be my bet.

Basically, Nintendo has rarely priced a device out of range of what many people consider "affordable". Ergo, the consensus is that they don't generally price out of mass market (again, with the 3DS being a recent exception - if you take it that far).

I do agree that $350 isn't out of the question, but that's the highest I can see them going.


True, but you must not forget that, as far as home consoles go, they've underpriced in the last two gens. Wii could have easily released at $300 and the Gamecube could even have been hit due to it's lower price creating a negative perception of value in the market.
