Technically A Link To The Past IS Zelda 3... it's basically a "prequel" to the first one, not a side story or set "thousands of years in the future" (I have no idea where the heck you came up with that lol.)
There's no point in hoping for a "true" sequel anyway because the Zelda timeline is pretty much FUBAR at this point. Basically you can expect Nintendo to release a new Zelda game every 3-5 years or so that completely reboots the story, while essentially being a remake of the original Zelda or ALTTP in some way.
Personally I would love for Nintendo to make some kind of open world, non-linear Zelda game, which is essentially what the first one was since you could start out by practically going almost anywhere and tackling the dungeons in almost any order, but I doubt it'll happen since lately Nintendo seems to favor the very linear, story-driven type of structure for its Zelda games.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
