But what happens after that? Other than Mario Kart Wii, there's nothing particularly exciting lined up to keep those elusive Wiis from collecting dust. Beyond massive first-party gems like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime, the current software lineup is pretty thin and the upcoming Wii release list is comparatively weak. We're expecting a slew of new first-party announcements come the E3 convention in July, but that might be just enough time for the competition to catch up.

This is pretty stupid. How is the rest of the year "weak," exactly, when no one actually knows what the rest of the '08 lineup is? Nintendo - and select 3rd parties, have purposely kept that under wraps. They're basically assuming. Also, I'm not sure how the competition is supposed to "catch up" by E3, unless they can developed and release several "mega hits" in under 90 days nothing at E3 should be having a significant instant impact on all 3 consoles lineups.

So why do you think that Nintendo and third parties would keep those games under wrap?? Does it not make sense to build up anticipation of a game? For the 360 and ps3 we more or less know what they are going to be releasing this year but for the wii as the author pointed out past the first quarter we know of virtually no AAA titles that are coming. Though personally I do hope they do come up with some great games so that we get good competition.

Nintendo is and alwayswas a very secretive company. Unlike Sony where almost everything is leaked Nintendo keeps everything silent until the moment they find best suited. This means they can steer momentum. If they have 10 brilliant 3rd party games coming and they can announce those on E3 and win that they'll gain a lot of press. More then if those 10 games were accidentally leaked throughout the year.
