PSN hasn't been restored in Japan yet.

Yeah but at this time PSN hadn't come back anywhere else either...and only in Japan did the PS3 suffer such a big drop.

As to your third point I don't think thats the reason because there are a ton of Japanese games for the PS3 that appeal to the Japanese.

Ahh, I thought it was FROM the 14th of May, my mistake.
Everything else seemed to drop aswell, maybe it's what that other guy said, something about "golden week".
And yes you are right, there are a tonne of Japanese games available for the PS3...In Japan =(
I still think there aren't enough though.
