Agree with fayceless.

I just use the systems I was brought up with (ft and inches for height, centimetres and metres for length, miles for longer distances, stone and pounds for weight, litres for volume). And I don't see why people should be forced to change just for the sake of uniformity and neatness, though I do now see why it appeals to the EU; it's vaguely fascistic.

Pretty much this, except I've always used kilograms for weight.

175 centimetres just doesn't have the same ring as "5 foot 8". "Mile" is a lot easier to say than "kilometer".

But if you're doing a scientific calculation, I just have no idea how you can do that with inches and pounds. The equations don't even work unless you use SI units! How do you figure out density? Multiply the mass by 2.2 and then divide it by the volume over 2.54^3? Or I suppose you could use pounds per cubic inch, but that just sounds horribly wrong.
