I have to agree with Brendude here. What makes you so sure that it won't happen this year? Looking at the YOY trends I'd say it's somewhat likely, especially as far as shipments are concerned. Last year PS3 outshipped 360 by 2.2 million units. Most likely PS3 will have its peak year this year and more than likely 360 will be at least marginally down on last year. If the combined YOY decline of the 360 and gain of the PS3 amounts to just 700k units than PS3 will pass 360 this year, and I'm pretty confident in saying that PS3 alone will be up by more than a million units.

All SONY need to do is hit a certain affordable price point and the console will sell like hot cakes. It's all about the price. If SONY could hit a price point of $200 by October / November, I will guarantee you that the PS3 will outsell the XBOX 360 by Christmas.

The games will help sell the console aswell, the XBOX 360 and Wii line-up is looking extremely weak this year. In my opinion, 2011 and 2012 will be the best years yet for the PS3. The PS3's exclusive line-up in 2011 / 2012 is better than all of the exclusives released since the console launched.

I see the PS3 becoming hugely successful in the next 3 years, possibly even reaching Wii sales figures.
