well, how long may i ask do you think it will be before nintendo releases their next hardware?

to me, this year is not completely how of the question.  although more likely i think it will be basically on the 3DS's one year anniversy.  there are a lot of rumors out there and for the most part you have to be pretty skeptical.  but one of threads (and i can't remember which one) had a quote that was very interesting to me.  something along the lines of ...

"nintendo is working really hard to gather 3rd party support by putting the hardware in front of them already.  and when tell people you get leaks".

match that with the "where there's smoke there's fire" quote via miyamoto and i really think nintendo is getting close to releasing their hardware.  close meaning like around a year from now.   zelda released both the wii/wii2 doesn't sound so ridiculous anymore.

Miyamoto's comment only means their next system is actually being made instead of just researched. It doesn't mean the system is about to come out. Again, they have to announce it, and then take time to build up hype and marketing. Even the 3DS anniversary is too soon for that.

So you are assuming Nintendo is going to let the Wii drift based on unreasonable assumptions of when the next system will come out.

we're both making assumptions.  but the way i read the quote seemed to imply that there is a hint a truth to the rumors which in turn means some developers have seen it.  if there are any dev kits in the wild the new hardware isn't that far off.

Miyamoto also said don't believe everything you read on the internet. So the dev kits in the hands of developers falls more under than than anything confirmed.

Plus my assumption is based on the fact that coasting on the Wii would lost customers and revenue, due to lack of output to keep interest up. I know this because it happens with any system that has a major game gap, including when it has happened to the Wii. If they are making another system soon, the R&D costs makes it more reasonable to have the Wii momentum kept up.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
