This is wrong. The Xbox 360 has recovered its own losses, but is still far away from having made back all the money that was lost on the first Xbox.

On topic: Unlike in the past, now I think the PS3 is going to make it. Microsoft has done everything they realistically could, but it's not going to be enough in the end. Sony will continue their global expansion and thus gain a first mover advantage over Microsoft in all those countries where the PS3 officially launched/will launch before the 360. Sales in each country individually probably won't be much to speak of, but it all adds up over time.

Yes it is profitable for each unit sold, as in it cost less to manufacture than the price they sell it for.  But, it's going to take much more than a few years of profit for MS to make back the billions it lost on the Xbox and 360 at the beginning of the gen.
