This is wrong. The Xbox 360 has recovered its own losses, but is still far away from having made back all the money that was lost on the first Xbox. On topic: Unlike in the past, now I think the PS3 is going to make it. Microsoft has done everything they realistically could, but it's not going to be enough in the end. Sony will continue their global expansion and thus gain a first mover advantage over Microsoft in all those countries where the PS3 officially launched/will launch before the 360. Sales in each country individually probably won't be much to speak of, but it all adds up over time. |
I was about to say the same thing. I think he's confused because I believe 3 years ago is when the 360 finally started turning profit on each one sold.
@ OP
I can say without a doubt, the PS3 will take 2nd. If Sony keeps going like they are, they may even be able to completely squash the shipped gap by the end of the year. The sold gap by the end of this fiscal year. The only thing that can save the 360 is if Kinect has another big holiday season. However, I doubt that will happen without a price cut, and even if it did it will still mostly be for the US. Even if Kinect has a great holiday in the states, it won't be able to change how big the PS3 will be in EMEAA and Japan.
So for the rest of the year, I see the PS3 selling more than the 360 quarterly, with maybe the 360 tying it for Q4 '11.
