I'm not going to give the 3DS an overall score but for just the 3d I give it a

2/10

The 3D is flawed in so many ways it's not even funny. The sweet spot is not just a specific angle from the screen, but an exact distance as well. Even within that exact position it has problems. The maximum depth is only about 2 inches. The games look like a model with a flat background. In pilotwings for example this makes it harder to judge distance. Your plane is in 3d along with close by trees and objects but anything too far away looks like a wall. Most users overlook this because they are new to 3d without glasses. I have many personal autostereoscopic displays and all of them put the 3DS to shame.

It must vary from person to person, then. For me, the 3D is certainly the part which I'd give a 10/10. The angle for me is very wide and, on top of that, the distance doesn't seem to matter at all. And, I dunno 'bout Pilotwings (I'd assumed it'd be significantly better), but Super Monkey Ball doesn't fit that description in the least. The 3D graphics are the best thing about the game.

I guess either it just doesn't work for you or you have some downright fantastic autostereoscopic devices.

It's the later. When the 3DS gets a price drop I'll film the 3D and compare it to one of my screens, all filmed in 3D ofcourse.

Did you play with the slider on full?
