Also I think the Data Pads hidden in Halo Reach gives some glimpses into what may be brewing in the Halo Universe and its kinda scary. Basically these AI have been governing and influencing the human race for an unknown amount of time in order to fullfill their single purpose which is the preservation of humanity. They formed their Assembly in complete secrecy and the human race has no idea of their existance. They are directly responsible for huge events such as the creation of the Spartans and in fact they themselves reached out to the Covenant and revealed our existance to them in an effort to force humanity to evolve and deal with such a threat that way we would unify and not destroy ourselves as we had been doing in interplanatary civil war.

Half-way through that thread my brain went into overload with questions. I still can't believe no one has figured out how to trigger the legendary ending to REach yet. That may answer a few more questions.
