Couple of things.

The big thing that is truely disruptive to any change is the tragedy in Japan.  The next 4 weeks in Japan last year the PS3 outsold the 360 by 150K.  I believe that the PS3 was already going to be down a great deal in Japan the next few weeks, but with the Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear situation Japan consumers are just not going to be as interested in consumer products.  I really expect that consoles sales will be cut in 1/2 the remainder of this year in Japan and the country rallies to start rebuilding.  I believe people will be out helping each other and if any video game sales do well in this environment it will be handhelds as people take the devices with them when they go out to help each other.

Second the situation with the Yen is going to make it a great deal harder for Sony to cut PS3 prices without sacrificing profitability.  So when there is a price cut it will be $50.  MS will easily counter that and could see them cut further particularly on the Kinect bundles.

Third it just doesnt matter anymore. As others have said if the PS3 ever takes #2 it will be when this generation is waning and software developers just wont care.  This isnt what Sony thought would happen so from what Sony thought would happen this generation was a setback/loss for Sony and a net gain for MS.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
