like i said in the other thread , Unreal Engine is useless, its meh , and its a resource monster, the only good thing about it is that it is cheap.

Not sure what you consider not "meh". It is an engine and there are some good games on it. So depends on the developer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games

there are a lot of games using it , because like i said, its very cheap , its the cheapest "HD" compatible engine on the market, so if developers looking for more profit but more buggy engine and dark glossy jelly-like shaders, they use this.

to me, this

Looks better than this

and one of them is 5 years older than the other.

Unreal engine is one of the reasons why some people find games nowadays so "Grey", colorless, grainy and unispiring

It's still down to the developers how the engines are used though and to be fair, there is a lot more happening (in terms of normal & bump maps, texture res, detail and lighting) in the second screenshot than the first. Valve just have a great art team with amazing animators. If given the Unreal Engine 3 I have no doubt they could re-create Half-Life 2 and have it running on similar hardware. Also, that screen looks like it's from Episode 2 which is an updated version of the Source engine with HDR, hardware facial animation etc.

Also, a lot of Unreal Engine 3 games are not "grey" like Mirror's Edge and Enslaved. As I said before, it's the developers primarily, not just the Engine that decide how good a game looks and runs.
